Malmesbury

Malmesbury, the "Queen of hilltop towns", lies 10 miles north of us.  With the remains of its impressive Norman Abbey,  Malmesbury is reputed to be the oldest borough in England.  The town received its charter in AD880 from King Alfred the Great, although there is earlier recorded evidence of a settlement noted by the Venerable Bede when the town was called Maeldulphi Urbs.
