Castle
Combe
This well known village, with its
well preserved stone houses, pub and church, is very popular and only ten
minutes away. One of
England's most beautiful villages, it sits in the wooded Cotswold valley of
'By Brook'. Its origins lie with Roman Fort at Castle Hill although after
the Danes and the Norman conquest little remains. Streets lined with
mellowed limestone cottages meet at the village market centre. Other
features include a triple arched bridge, church with 15th century tower, the
Dower House and the White Hart Inn. The lovely cottages and local history
combine to make Castle Combe a photographer's paradise.
Castle Combe Race Circuit.
The
Castle Combe circuit, ust
outside the village,
was opened in 1950 using the perimeter track of the former RAF airfield.
Today, the circuit boasts
modern facilities for competitors and spectators, with the resurfaced and
now reshaped circuit providing what is generally recognised as providing the
closest circuit racing in British motorsport.
It now hosts car and
motorcycle racing, track days and various driving experiences in addition to
a variety of other events.
