Bath

One stop away by train, Bath is a city of breathtaking beauty with a romantic history.  Ever since the legendary Prince Bladud was restored to health around BC860 by the mysterious waters, people have journeyed to the hot spring.  In Celtic times the sacred spring was surrounded by an oak tree grove where druids worshipped the guardian goddess Sul.   In 43AD, the Romans built a magnificent temple to their goddess Minerva where the druids' grove had been and Bath now has the most famous Roman remains in Britain.

The classical architecture of the eighteenth-century Georgian Baths offers a real feast for the eyes since there are more grade 1 listed buildings in Bath than in central London.   Bath is the only city in Britain to designated as a 'World Heritage Site', an  honour it received in 1987.
